Ktima Gerovassiliou
Vangelis Gerovasileiou is a big part of the history of the renaissance of Greek wine. Already from the time he was making wine in Porto Carras, where he left an era with his winemakings, he had set out to utilize the 12 acres of land of his paternal heritage in Epanomi, Thessaloniki.
As he himself says, he planted the first 145 acres himself, with the valuable help of his mother at first. He brought Malagouzia out of obscurity when he found it in a small patch of the Porto Carras vineyard and decided to plant it on his Estate, literally saving it from oblivion. From then until today, the Gerovasiliou Estate has been awarded countless times for its wines while being ranked among the renowned names of Greek winemaking.
The well-kept vineyard and its modern winery are constantly full of visitors, while in the heart of the winery there is also an extremely interesting Wine Museum that presents aspects of the world's winemaking history, as well as an incredibly large and rare collection of openers that measures around 2600 pieces (Mr. Gerovasiliou is among the world's largest collectors of openers).
Finally, after the tour of all the winery facilities and the tasting, visitors can also enjoy a small meal in the Estate's wine bistro which seems to be floating above the vineyard.
